Raised in the Caribbean streets of Canarsie, New York, writer and documentary photographer Gabrielle Pascal has turned to storytelling for solace nearly her entire life. In times of deep mental struggles, she's found connection and hope especially through the written word, and continues to explore its relationship with the image through documentary photography. In her stories, written in lyrical, simple language, she creates worlds of the supernatural and mythical. Her work interrogates the ramifications of colonialism and explores grief, the loss of faith, loneliness, and finding one's purpose. She hopes that through her storytelling, one can find the same solace in her work as stories continue to do for her.
